Villager, Wu Shimin said: “I can spend 20 days a month to pick the teas, and everyday I can pick up 5kgs teas. If the price is 20 RMB’KG, I can easily earn 2500 RMB. The tea season is from Feb to Oct., and the income from tea picking up can reach 20 thousand.” There are more than 3600 Mu (1 mu=0.0667 hectares) tea land in Buyang village. The total population of the village is 2485, with an annual average income of 12.3 thousand. The village has become the first village get rich by planting teas.”
In 1988, Yangbu village pant 200Mu tea land for the first time. In the starting years, villagers are not that active because of lacking of funds, techniques, and marketing channels. The party representative of that village—Wu Zhihong said: the whole village is active in getting related projects. At the same time, tea experts are invited to train the villagers on site. More than 20 young people are sent to the Tea Institute in Guilin to work and study. Then they teach the villager when they are back. The village ran the tea processing plant by themselves. And people are encouraged to open stores in town to sell teas. They also went to attend the tea fair, tea evaluation activities in Liuzhou, Guilin, Nanning and other cities. After a few years, Buyang tea wins its fame. The whole village is in high passion for tea planting, tea processing and tea selling. The green tea land over the mountains becomes the green banks for the villagers.
The production of tea increases, and its quality and brand are of great importance. One person can hard succeed, and the union of the whole people is the key!” Wu Zhengguang said. The village start to build the standard tea land, and Longjin Tea, Wuniu Tea and other good teas are introduced. Now the completed industry chain of cultivating teas, planting teas, processing teas, selling teas, and visiting tea land has been formed/ “There are more than 150 hotel rooms in Buyang, which can hold 300 visitor a day. The Gui-San highway is soon finished, which connects Guilin and Sanjiang. We need to spare no efforts to integrate the teas with tourism.” Said Xie Xunting, a villager.
